About

Dr Basma Ahmad Sedki Dajani (Jordan) is a Professor of Arabic Language and Literature at the College of Arts in the University of Jordan.

She was awarded her BA in Arabic Literature with a minor in Sociology from the American University of Cairo (AUC) in 1990, and her MA in Arabic Literature from AUC in 1993 — her thesis titled “Classical Andalusian Love Poetry.” She received her PhD in Arabic Literature from Ain Shams University, Cairo, in June 1999, editing the manuscript “Masāriʿ al-ʿUshshāq” by Jaʿfar al-Sarrāj.

She has presented over 50 papers on teaching Arabic to non-native speakers, cultural dialogue, the dialogue of civilizations, and Arabic literature, with articles in international journals, and has lectured in many countries including the United States. She speaks Arabic and English, and is interested in the history of Islamic civilization and Arabic language and literature.
